A Great American Died Last Week

Our Father & My Father by Rev. John J. McCartney on National Review Online

We lost a great American this week. He was Dr. John Joseph McCartney, a man who lived his whole life in emulation of the father of Jesus, to whom he prayed every day. St. Joseph, pictured above, is spoken of in eloquent terms by the son of Dr. McCartney, Father John J. McCartney, pastor of St. Matthew’s Church in Dix Hills, N.Y., who eulogised his father at his Mass of Christian Burial. After living an exemplary Christian life of 93 years, Dr. McCartney passed away quietly with hardly any notice outside his circle of friends and family. Thanks to his daughter, Dorothy McCartney, who is research manager at National Review and a longtime researcher for the late William F. Buckley Jr., this poignant homily by her brother was published on National Review Online.

Requiescat in pace.
