On Dealing with Terrorists
That's Judea Pearl, father of Daniel Pearl, the Wall Street Journal South Asia bureau chief who was abducted and brutally murdered by terrorists in Karachi, Pakistan, Jan. 31, 2002. Mr. Pearl is a professor of computer science at U.C.L.A. He published, in the Wall Street Journal, today an edited version of a letter he sent to the three task forces, set up in January 2009, by President Obama, to review and recommend strategies concerning various aspects of the Guantanamo detention facility. We can only hope that Attorney General Eric Holder, who to date seems determined to protect the non-existent rights of terrorists, will take the advice of Professor Pearl, and put the safety of our country and its citizens before his misguided idea of constitutional rights for terrorists.
Dr. Thomas Sowell's quote recently posted on this Blog is appropriate here:
So many “rights” have been conjured up out of thin air that many people seem unaware that rights and obligations derive from explicit laws, not from politically correct pieties. If you don’t meet the terms of the Geneva Conventions, then the Geneva Conventions don’t protect you. If you are not an American citizen, then the rights guaranteed to American citizens do not apply to you.
