In our overly politically correct world, there is still one thing about which you can say any disparaging thing that comes to mind without concern for censure of any kind: the Catholic Church.
Randall Smith, who blogs at The Catholic Thing, wrote a recent piece entitled "Freedom from Catholicism," in which he makes the case for the pervasive prejudice manifested so often both publicly and privately in society.
...anti-Catholicism is one of the last acceptable prejudices in the country. Things people would never dream of saying about other groups, they’ll say without reserve about Catholics. And a degree of ignorance that would be downright embarrassing in other contexts – on the level of: “But don’t all black people eat watermelon?” — will cause no public embarrassment whatsoever when the ignorant comment is about Catholics and Catholicism.You can read the entire essay HERE.
