Francis Cardinal George, Archbishop Emeritus of Chicago, died this morning. Requiescat in Pace.
He was Archbishop of Chicago for 17 years, and recently was credited with probably the most prescient quote from a U. S. Cardinal, considering the present climate of intolerance of religion in the public square.
Here's the quote:
“I expect to die in bed, my successor will die in prison and his successor will die a martyr in the public square. His successor will pick up the shards of a ruined society and slowly help rebuild civilization, as the church has done so often in human history.”
