Mitch Seavey: Oldest Winner of the Iditarod at 57

Mitch Seavey beat son Dallas into Nome by almost three hours to become the oldest winner of the Last Great Race on Earth, setting a new record in the process.

Idiatrod 2017: Race is on for 2nd Place. Mitch Seavey alone in front

Mitch Seavey left White Mountain two hours ahead of son Dallas, who left there only three minutes ahead of Nicolas Petit, so the race to Nome for 2nd place is on.

Dallas Seavey Two Hours Behind Dad at White Mountain

With only one check point (Safety) to go before Nome, Mitch Seavey is two hours ahead of son Dallas.

Iditarod 2017: Restart moved to Anchorage

From Iditarod News today:

The Latest Iditarod News! 

The Iditarod Restart has been moved to Fairbanks. The Board of Directors of the Iditarod Trail Committee voted unanimously to move the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race restart location from Willow to Fairbanks due to the poor conditions of critical trail areas in the Alaska Range.

The ceremonial start in downtown Anchorage will take place as scheduled on Saturday, March 4, beginning at 10 a.m. The restart will now take place in Fairbanks on Monday, March 6, beginning at 10 a.m.

This marks the third time in the history of the Iditarod that the restart has been moved to Fairbanks due to poor conditions in the Alaska Range. The first was in 2003, and second in 2015.
