That's Heidi Mehltretter, executive director of Livingbattlefield.org, an extremely worthwhile educational site. Anyone interested in learning about the history of war and the brave warriors who shaped that history, can learn a lot just by clicking on to the site (which happens to be linked on the right side of this Blog under "My Blog List").
We recently had correspondence with Heidi, and here is part of what she had to say:
"We are trying to put American History firmly back in the forefront of education by creative story telling methods that engage with, as well as enlighten, viewers. Our films are presented by a passionate and eccentric host, who is one of American's favorite European battlefield guides. He has recently been made an honorary captain in the U.S Army.

"Many people are unable to visit the sites of these great campaigns, so we endeavor to bring the action to them. We film in the exact locations, we use the testimony of the men who did the real fighting and we demonstrate, with the use of skilled re-enactments, exactly what the veteran is describing. The series truly combines history with travel.
"As we approach the centenary, we are planning a 4 part series entitled, 'Over There', The Americans in WWI, which will hopefully bring to life a little known, but important period of American History.
" 'The American Road to Victory' was financed by us, without sponsors. We rely solely on the sale of our DVD's to carry on our educational work and lay the foundations for future projects, so publicity and links are immensely important to us."
Thank you for your support.

Heidi Mehltretter
