O'Reilly: The Real Story About Syrian Refugees

This was posted on Western Journalism.com today.
They posted the following excerpts from O'Reilly's talking points memo.
“Fifty-four percent of American oppose taking in Syrian refugees even after they’ve been screened for security,” he said.
“The reason most Americans do not want to accept Muslim refugees is not based on ethnicity or religion – it is based on security.”
“The majority of Americans have no confidence at all that the Obama administration can protect them from harm,” he said, noting that current leaders are “so liberal, so frightened and so chaotic that they cannot provide security for we the people.”
and concluded with this:
To help illustrate his point, O’Reilly cited two Obama policies – lax border security and the release of more than 36,000 convicted criminal aliens – as evidence that this administration has made America less safe.

The 9/11 Boatlift: Who Knew?

Aaron Miller posted this today at Ricochet.com:

"The Great Boatlift of 9/11 became the largest sea evacuation in history; larger than the evacuation of Dunkirk in World War II, where 339,000 British and French soldiers were rescued over the course of nine days. On 9/11, nearly 500,000 civilians were rescued from Manhattan by boat. It took less than nine hours."

Ron Paul: Clueless and Dangerous

It's time to stop saying "anybody but Obama." That's not to say that any of the candidates would be worse than Obama, but there is one (maybe more) who would be just as bad - at least as far as knowing our enemy. How's this for an idiotic statement by Ron Paul?

“I don’t see Islam as our enemy. I see that motivation is occupation and those who hate us and would like to kill us, they are motivated by our invasion of their land, the support of their dictators that they hate.”

As Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch said after reading that quote of Ron Paul:

Yes. When Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said, “Have no doubt... Allah willing, Islam will conquer what? It will conquer all the mountain tops of the world,” he was just upset about the U.S. invasion of Iran.

If we put one more man in the White House (we've already had two) who want to tell us that Islam is a "religion of peace," we will be in bigger trouble than we already are.

Ann Barnhardt: A Woman of Strength

That's Ann Barnhardt, who understands the U.S. Constitution (especially the First Amendment) a lot better than Senator Lindsey Graham (he who was almost attached to John McCain during our last presidential election campaign). I posted this piece about Ann back in April 2010 and it got over 500 hits this past week. I couldn't understand the sudden interest in that post until being sent this post on PajamasMedia today. You really don't have to read the whole PajamsMedia post, but if you do nothing else today, please watch both videos on the post and then click on this post from Iowntheworld.com and read the interview of Ann there.

If you're not aware of the ridiculous statements made last week by Senator Graham and General David Petraeus, you'll get the idea pretty clearly by watching the videos and reading Ann's interview. It should be noted that I previously posted the hope that General Petraeus would someday run for president. Please forgive me for that premature assessment. I agree totally with Ann's characterization of him as stated in her interview.

Andrew McCarthy - A Third Way to Try Terrorists

Andrew McCarthy, who successfully tried the Blind Sheik for the 1993 World Trade Center bombing - and put him away for life - is no fan of trying terrorists in civilian courts. He's also no fan of military tribunals which he thinks have done a poor job in the terrorists trials they have so far conducted.

Rather than just criticize, though, McCarthy has come up with a third way to handle trials for terrorists. He's calling for a national-security court system that will meld the best of both worlds: civilian courts and military tribunals.

The National Security Court System would be staffed the same way the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court is staffed. The civilian judges would be assigned by the chief justice, and classified information would be protected. The terrorists would be granted rights that "are fair but that do not equal the constitutional rights of American citizens."

To prevent judges from inflating due-process protections, as they have liberty to do in the civilian system, Congress can prescribe exacting rules. Lawmakers can include a direction that terrorist defendants are not entitled to any rights, privileges, or protections not explicitly spelled out in the legislation. Government prosecutors can be given the power to appeal instantly if a trial judge suppresses evidence, dismisses counts, or tries to grant accused terrorists benefits beyond what Congress has enacted.

It sounds like an idea worth trying, but getting the legislative branch and the executive branch (especially Eric Holder) to agree on anything so revolutionary would probably be a bridge too far.
