Brownwood, Texas Citizen Saves Police Officer

Vic Stacy, the resident of Peach House RV Park who came to the aid of Early Police Sgt. Steven Means Sunday after two people were killed by Charles Ronald Conner, insists he's not a hero — he just did what had to be done. Stacy told the Brownwood Bulletin when he saw that the police officer couldn't get a good shot at the gunman, "I jumped in there, put that first shot in him, and knocked him down." Here are portions of the interview.

Brown County Sheriff Bobby Grubbs conducts a press conference at the scene of the shootings that resulted in three deaths north of Brownwood on U.S. Highway 183 Sunday afternoon.

If guns were outlawed, that officer might be dead, because the perpetrator who had no qualms about killing two innocent people would have had no qualms about violating gun laws; the law abiding good guy, on the other hand, probably would not have had the gun that saved the officer.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is a FOOL!

Does he really think crazy people will turn in their guns - or is he dumb enough to think if guns are outlawed, outlaws won't be able to get guns?  Does he know that despite the strict laws against drugs, people who want illegal drugs have no problem getting them, and that the traffic in illegal drugs has caused more violence than any city should have to tolerate?  Apparently not.

Negroes with Guns: Ann Coulter

A World War II Marine veteran, Robert F. Williams, wrote "Negroes with Guns," published in 1962 and available HERE.  It's the story "of a southern black community's struggle to arm itself in self-defense against the Ku Klux Klan and other racist groups."


Ann Coulter's column today at Human Events discusses the lessons of the book in light of the hyper reported Trayvon Martin case and the subsequent ill-advised demand by some for tighter gun control laws.

We don't know the facts yet, but let's assume the conclusion MSNBC is leaping to is accurate: George Zimmerman stalked a small black child and murdered him in cold blood, just because he was black.

If that were true, every black person in America should get a gun and join the National Rifle Association, America's oldest and most august civil rights organization.

Apparently this has occurred to no one because our excellent public education system ensures that no American under the age of 60 has the slightest notion of this country's history.

Gun control laws were originally promulgated by Democrats to keep guns out of the hands of blacks. This allowed the Democratic policy of slavery to proceed with fewer bumps and, after the Civil War, allowed the Democratic Ku Klux Klan to menace and murder black Americans with little resistance.

(Contrary to what illiterates believe, the KKK was an outgrowth of the Democratic Party, with overlapping membership rolls. The Klan was to the Democrats what the American Civil Liberties Union is today: Not every Democrat is an ACLU'er, but every ACLU'er is a Democrat. Same with the Klan.) 

In the preface to "Negroes With Guns," Williams writes: "I have asserted the right of Negroes to meet the violence of the Ku Klux Klan by armed self-defense -- and have acted on it. It has always been an accepted right of Americans, as the history of our Western states proves, that where the law is unable, or unwilling, to enforce order, the citizens can, and must act in self-defense against lawless violence." 

Contrary to MSNBC hosts, I do not believe the shooting in Florida is evidence of a resurgent KKK. But wherever the truth lies in that case, gun control is always a scheme of the powerful to deprive the powerless of the right to self-defense.

Squishy Law Enforcement and Riots

It Didn't Work in Chicago

John Lott, author of More Guns, Less Crime, wrote this piece on National Review Online yesterday. Aside from confirming the inarticulateness and ignorance of the mayor of Chicago, it proves again his thesis for More Guns, Less Crime.

The Chicago gun debate finally shows signs of changing. With the Supreme Court’s decision on the city’s gun ban imminent, people might be beginning to understand that gun bans don’t stop criminals from getting guns...

Murder rates soared in D.C. and Chicago after their gun bans were put in place. As shown in the just released third edition of my book More Guns, Less Crime, before the late-1982 ban, Chicago’s murder rate was falling relative to those in the nine other largest cities, the 50 largest cities, the five counties that border Cook County (in which the city is located), and the U.S. as a whole. After the ban, Chicago’s murder rate rose relative to all these other places. Compared with the 50 most populous cities, Chicago’s murder rate went from equaling the average for the other cities in 1982, to exceeding their average murder rate by 32 percent in 1992, to exceeding their average by 68 percent in 2002.
