The Obama administration is cracking down on the non-union Gibson Guitar company in an investigation into contraband wood. That's right, wood. Is this a legitimate environmental investigation, or a buddy pass to Obama's union pals?
Juan Williams was at FreedomFest 2011, and was interviewed by Reason.TV's Matt Welch. Don't miss the short video of the interview during which Juan describes school choice as the “civil rights issue of our time.”
Juan Williams did not come late to the fight for school choice. He was the most prominent voice arguing for the continuation of the District of Columbia Opportunity Scholarship Program (DCOSP), which was discontinued by the current administration with the help of the duplicitous demagogues in the U. S. senate led by the most duplicitous one of all - Dick Durbin of Illinois. Of course the losers in this fight to preserve the highly successful DCOSP were the least advantaged minority children in D.C.

Danika Quinn of PJTV, with help from Steve Green and Scott Ott of Trifecta, talks about the battle between Boeing and the National Labor Relations Board over the Board's stance that Boeing cannot move the production of their new 787 Dreamliner airplane from the state of Washington to South Carolina. Even if Boeing wins in court, the attempt by the federal government to tell a major business where they can or cannot operate should be a major topic in the 2012 presidential election. South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has spoken out loudly and clearly on this blatant attempt by the federal government to prevent the creation of over 3,000 new good paying (non-union) jobs in her state, and she's promised to stay engaged.
Nick Gillespie of Reason.TV and Steven Malanga of City Journal can deconstruct a specious argument better than anyone, and they do just that in the above video. They easily expose the ridiculousness of the statements of New York politicians and union thugs who are doing their best to "save" the city of New York from the evil Walmart. Surely they're aware that there will be plenty of jobs created by a new Walmart (and the food bills of New York residents will decline), but the fortunate New York residents filling those new jobs will not be paying union dues, so there will be less money for union officials to fund the campaigns of their favorite politicians. It really is that simple.
In case you have any doubt as to whose side you should take when public sector unions demand more and more in the way of salary, benefits, and unbelievable pensions, watch this episode of Klavan on the Culture.

If you don't live in Wisconsin, be thankful: your kids have a chance. A micrometer would be needed to measure the intelligence level of some of the teachers who called in sick today so they could storm the capitol in Madison to protest Governor Scott Walker's proposal that "would restrict negotiations with non-law-enforcement unions to wages only, and would require recertification votes each year. It would also make Wisconsin a right-to-work state, ending automatic deduction of union dues from paychecks and instead make them voluntary." That does not seem to equate the governor with the former leader of the Nazi party in Germany, does it?

Juan Williams is perhaps the most outspoken advocate for School Choice. He was particularly critical of the 111th Congress for dismantling the District of Columbia Opportunity Scholarship Program, but he unfortunately did not have the clout of the Teachers Unions. Here's Juan:
It's still difficult to believe that President Barack Obama and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan would cancel this chance for a future for poor kids in the District of Columbia, and condemn them to inferior schools where violence is more prevalent than learning, and do so at the behest of special interests, i.e. the Teachers' Unions.
The Heritage Foundation posted the above video yesterday and covered a number of ways that concerned citizens can be a part of the solution. Here's the link:
Dan Mitchell of the CATO Institute made this video which was posted on Big Government.Com yesterday. It's disheartening to learn what the public sector unions are dong to our financial future, but there is an easy (well, maybe not so easy) solution: abolish the federal departments (along with some others) mentioned in the video, and the savings could be passed along to private sector businesses so they could create jobs for the former federal employees. Of course those former federal employees would then have to work - and work for less money - but gravy trains can't run forever.
