Tim Tebow is a Real Christian
My friend, Drew, forwarded this video which was embedded in a post on the website of The Britton Christian Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The event was the ESPNU College Football Awards ceremony in Orlando, in 2009.
John Coleman Should Know
That's John Coleman, founder of the Weather Channel, daring to disparage the gospel according to Al Gore. For some reason, it strikes me that Mr. Coleman is more qualified to speak on the topic he addresses in this video than is Mr Gore.
The Pink Glove Dance
The employees of the Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland, Oregon made this video to generate breast cancer awareness throughout their hospital system. If there is anyone, anywhere, who has not been touched by breast cancer, or who knows no one who has been touched by this disease, that person is unknown to me. This is a novel way to bring awareness to a disease that in 2005 (the most recent year for which numbers are available) was diagnosed in 186,467 women. In the same year, 41,116 women died from breast cancer. Survivor rates, though, are on the rise every year, and there is hope. This video celebrates that hope.

Andrew McCarthy: Holder’s Haste Makes Waste of Intel

Eric Holder’s Justice Department rushed to file an indictment Wednesday against Flight 253 terrorist Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab. The telling document is a monument to lost opportunity. Come hell or high water, the Obama administration will press ahead with its commitment to treat al-Qaeda’s war against the United States as a crime wave best managed by the federal courts.
To protect the United States, though, we don’t need Abdulmutallab’s conviction. We need his information. Wednesday’s indictment demonstrates what two weeks of Obama’s amateur-hour performance have suggested all along: We don’t have it.

Political Math on Unemployment
Matthias Shapiro, of the Political Math Blog,
is as smart as he is funny. He posted the following on his Blog on January 6th:
A Free Way to Support Political Math
January 6th, 2010 | Author: politicalmath
Over the last few months, a number of people have asked how they can support me. I know that, for most people, times are tough and money is tight, so here is a fantastic way to support what I do.
This is not my “real” job… it’s just a hobby. And a hobby that is not particularly profitable. In my “real” job, I work as a software designer and my big conference of the year is coming up. The cost of going to the conference is fairly steep (in the $2000 range) but I can get nearly all those costs covered by Microsoft if I speak at the conference.
The conference has an “Open Call” for sessions and the winners will be determined by an online vote that is open from now until January 15th. I’ve submitted a session where I’ll talk about creating information visualizations and if my session is voted in the top 10, I get to go. So, please, go and vote for me.
The process is simple. Click on the link, click “Add to Ballot” and then click “Submit Your Ballot”. It’s like donating directly to my bank account at no cost to yourself. You can also vote multiple times from different computers. And your friends can vote.
I don’t like to bleg… I know that my readers are not here so that I can get cool things. But I would appreciate the token, if you can spare a minute of your time.
Thanks.
If you have time, please click on "Political Math" on the right side of this Blog, under My Blog List, then click on HOME, then scroll down to "A Free Way to Support Political Math," then click on "go and vote for me," then "Add to Ballot," then "Submit Your Ballot." It's not as complicated as it might seem; it's actually quick and easy, and you'll be helping a really bright guy go to a conference at no expense to you. Please also check in occasionally with Political Math (on the right side of this Blog). You'll always enjoy it, and you might learn something.
One more thing: if you have more than one computer, please vote on each computer, and, if you know someone who might be interested in Political Math, please ask them to vote also.

Daniel J. Mitchell on Karl Rove

Daniel J. Mitchell, Senior Fellow at the CATO Institute, fired a broadside at Karl Rove on the Institute's Blog today. I always look forward to reading Rove's columns, and listening to him when he appears on various TV shows - and always trust him - but Mitchell's piece is hard to disparage. When Rove defends the profligate spending of George W. Bush, he will always risk being attacked by fiscal conservatives such as Daniel Mitchell.
The below link to the Mitchell post contains a link to the column by Rove in today's Wall Street Journal

An Indictment Would Have Been Better

Scott Johnson at The Powerline Blog gives us his take on the best news to come out of Washington since January 20, 2009.

Proactive vs Reactive

This post from Armstrong Williams appeared on The Hill's Blog Roundup yesterday.
Kill them before they kill us!
by Armstrong Williams
After the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, al Qaeda brazenly declared its goal of building an Islamic empire that would wipe out the “infidels” (read this as you and me).
Since then, there have been at least 29 foiled terror plots against the United States.
The terrorists intend to destroy us. They will strike again. They have told us so — most recently with the botched attempt by Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab to detonate an explosive device aboard a Northwest Airlines flight.
The most shocking thing about this isn't that we're being attacked — again, the terrorists plainly declared their desire to do so — but that we're not doing more about it. A CIA counterterrorism expert told me the other day that “the agency” knows where most terrorist cells are located in the United States. But their hands are tied until the cells actually move into action. Obviously, this is not the way to go, explained the analyst. The only effective way to combat terrorism is to root it out before it even starts. That means taking advantage of the modern intelligence that we have and assassinating known members of domestic terrorist cells before — not after — they “go hot.”
Will this administration have the courage to do something so sensible? According to the analyst I spoke with, the answer so far is a resounding no.
So, to the president, I offer this modest proposal: Kill anyone — young or old— who participates in plots against this country; root them out; slit their throats; kill all family members and friends associated with such plots; take full advantage of our modern intelligence to wipe terrorists from the face of this earth before — not after — they move into action.
On Christmas, we were lucky. The only thing that prevented Abdulmutallab from blowing up a crowded plane was a faulty fuse and vigilant passengers. Next time the equipment may not be faulty, and the weapon may be a nuclear bomb. We are living in a new world. We must understand this, and act accordingly.

Thanks, Brian Lamb, but it won't happen.

Brian Lamb of C-Span has written to House and Senate leaders requesting "that you open all important negotiations, including any conference committee meetings, to electronic media coverage." Remember this is what President Obama promised during his campaign for the presidency. Mr. Lamb's letter was published on National Review Online today (see link below). Here's a clip:
President Obama, Senate and House leaders, many of your rank-and-file members, and the nation’s editorial pages have all talked about the value of transparent discussions on reforming the nation’s health care system. Now that the process moves to the critical stage of reconciliation between the Chambers, we respectfully request that you allow the public full access, through television, to legislation that will affect the lives of every single American.

John Brennan Is Keeping Bad Company

Surely the Nuns, Brothers, or Priests who taught John Brennan at Saint Joseph of the Palisades High School in West New York told him to stay away from people like Rahm Emanuel. So what happened? John ends up as Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Adviser for Homeland Security and Counter Terrorism at the White House. As such, he has to sit in close proximity to people like Rahm Emanuel pretty often (see above). That can cause one to make pathetically spun statements meant to protect the people who are above you in the feeding chain (lest you lose your spot in that chain). It would be hard to imagine John Brennan doing something like that when he was a high-ranking official at the C.I.A.
This posting on The Foundry of The Heritage Foundation would not make John's old teachers proud.

Unfortunately, Brennan continued his dissembling when he was interviewed yesterday by Chris Wallace, on Fox News Sunday. Check out this post from the Powerline Blog.

Sundays are for Beauty - The Mills Brothers
God I love the Mills Brothers! My generation (the 50's), in Philadelphia neighborhoods, knew every word to every song ever recorded by them, and weren't afraid to sing their songs at parties. The Mills Brothers were special, and often sang a cappella, with the occasional accompaniment of a single guitar. The lyrics of their songs were easily understood, and none of the words were off color.
If you're not familiar with the Mills Brothers, you can learn more about them HERE.
Have a beautiful Sunday.

Krauthammer: War? What War?

Charles Krauthammer offers his always welcome opinion on the the Obama administration's handling of the Christmas Day attempt to blow up a plane inbound to Detroit by an Islamic terrorist. Here are some clips:
This is the same president who, after the Ford Hood shooting, warned us “against jumping to conclusions” — code for daring to associate Nidal Hasan’s mass murder with his Islamist ideology. Yet, with Abdulmutallab, Obama jumped immediately to the conclusion, against all existing evidence, that the bomber acted alone.
More jarring still were Obama’s references to the terrorist as a “suspect” who “allegedly tried to ignite an explosive device.” You can hear the echo of FDR: “Yesterday, Dec. 7, 1941 — a date which will live in infamy — Japanese naval and air force suspects allegedly bombed Pearl Harbor.”
But a government that refuses to admit that we are at war, indeed, refuses even to name the enemy — jihadist is a word banished from the Obama lexicon — turns laxity into a governing philosophy.
