This is a video of Lance Mackey, who is favored to win his third Iditarod this year, at last year's start. He's in the red jumpsuit with Bib #6 on it. Note the dog handlers guiding the dogs and sled into the starting gate. This is actually the restart at Willow, which is the official start of the race. The Anchorage start is ceremonial. After the mushers travel 11 miles tomorrow, they pack up and truck everything to Willow for the official start (restart) the next day. I'll be a Trail Guard for the start here tomorrow, then again for the restart in Willow on Sunday. They have a shuttle to take us up to Willow, about 70 miles away. It takes about an hour and a half. We'll return to Anchorage Sunday night.
